– From the individual management of small parts to information management of slips and tickets,
rMQR Code is applicable in a wide range of fields
while retaining the outstanding scan speed and data capacity of QR Code –

DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED (Head office: Agui-cho, Chita-gun, Aichi, President & CEO: Takayoshi Sagara, hereinafter referred to as DENSO WAVE) has developed “rMQR Code” (rectangular Micro QR Code), a new rectangular type of QR Code (Note 1). rMQR Code can be printed in long, narrow spaces while retaining the outstanding scan speed and data capacity characteristics of QR Code. It contributes to the efficient management and use of information and resources in a wide range of industries including manufacturing. Moreover, rMQR Code has obtained ISO certification, and can be used freely and with peace of mind by all users worldwide.

■ rMQR Code development background

DENSO WAVE developed QR Code in 1994. QR Code offers outstanding scan speed and data capacity, and because it is in the public domain, it has become the global standard, and is widely used in a variety of different fields. DENSO WAVE has since evolved its QR Code to solve social and customer issues by developing other codes such as compact “Micro QR Code (Note 2)”. At the same time, as adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) linking “people”, “goods”, and “information” accelerates, there is an increasing need in the manufacturing industry for the individual management of electronic components and other ultra-small components in order to promote quality control and operational efficiency. In addition, as the use of information management for slips and forms continues to gain traction in a wide range of industries, there have been challenges such as the inability to print codes due to limited space in margins. Moreover, DENSO WAVE anticipates the advent of a society in which companies and governments provide services tailored to the diversifying needs of individuals by utilizing new, more convenient QR Code. In response to this, we developed rMQR Code to meet the needs of a wide variety of industries to store large amounts of information in small spaces.

■ rMQR Code features

(1)   Since large amounts of data can be stored in the long, narrow spaces commonly found in margins, the use of rMQR Code contributes to information management in small spaces with limited height dimension, and to improving product design.

à    Further development of QR Code technology has made it possible to print codes in long, narrow spaces in which conventional QR Codes could not be printed, and to store large amounts of data up to 361 numeric characters, 219 alphanumeric characters, or 92 kanji characters.

(2)    Same rapid scan speed as QR Code is possible.

à    Rapid scanning has been realized by arranging codes with the same configuration pattern as QR Code.

(3)    ISO certification has been obtained, meaning rMQR Code can be used by anyone with peace of mind.

à    DENSO WAVE has obtained ISO certification for rMQR Code in addition to QR Code and Micro QR Code.
rMQR Code can be used freely by anyone with peace of mind.

■ Images of practical use and future prospects

We expect the adoption of rMQR Code to contribute to a wide range of new areas related to DX, including part traceability in factories and supply chains, brand products that place emphasis on design, and information management with slips and forms. DENSO WAVE plans to release products that support rMQR Code beginning from April. As a QR Code developer, DENSO WAVE will continue to help solve social issues through solutions utilizing QR Code, and the development of new types of QR Code.

■ Images of use

Safety management of medical devices and pharmaceuticals

The use of rMQR Code also enables the individual management of small and slender medical devices and pharmaceuticals. It is resistant to distortion and dirt, and therefore practical.

Data management with manufacturing labels and price tags

The ability to store large amounts of data in less space allows for higher quality traceability. Price tag labels also tend to have greater margins, allowing more information to be displayed.
