Denso Wave Incorporated (head office at Agui-cho, Chita-gun, Aichi Prefecture; Mitsuhiko Masegi, president) would like to announce the launch of marketing on March 1, 2012 of a new lineup of built-in 2D-barcode scanners, QB30 Series. No manufacturer’s suggested prices will be set for the units in favor of those set on the market (open price). Intended volume of annual sales for the product is approximately 20,000 for domestic and overseas markets combined.

QB30 Series of units implement cutting-edge scanning technologies in a small-sized housing, 60 (D) x 60 (W) x 25 (H) mm, allowing our customers to take advantage of their full potentials in varieties of devices. Along with the conventional usages of scanners such as reading of medical test specimen codes and reading of stacked barcodes at manufacturing workshops, they can also be put to use in multi-media terminal units, which is seeing a rapid expansion recently, for reading barcodes and QR codes printed in membership cards, discount coupons, entrance tickets, etc. or in entrance gate check devices. Expecting a wide range of situations the new units would be used in, we have lined up a model equipped with an I/O terminal that can be connected to controllers such as a sequencer and a USB model.

Two main features distinguish QB30 Series most of all: one is high-speed reading made possible by a newly developed scanning engine that is capable of reading codes on objects moving at 800 mm/s, almost twice as fast as the speed for the conventional models (Note 1). Thanks to this feature, productivity increases can be expected when our units are used to read codes on products being transported on a conveyor or the like in a production line. Another is wide-angle reading made possible by the use of a wide-angle lens for close-range objects. Thanks to this feature, space saving can be realized for devices to which our units are incorporated such as multi-media terminal units and gate check devices where space is a valuable commodity.

Anticipating dirt and dust to which our units built in other devices are exposed, their anti-dust and anti-droplets performance are designed to conform to IP54 as per the Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures (IP Code). Also, in consideration of operation in semi-outdoor settings, its operating range of temperatures is designed as –20 to 50°C. Our units can be used without being concerned about their usage scenes or locations

QB30 series of units will be on display in our booth at The 9th Auto ID Expo Osaka to be held at Mydome Osaka on 21st & 22nd of February, 2012.

Note 1: Speed of reading a single QR code (version 5 codes with 0.33 mm cell size)

1. High-speed reading
Thanks to a newly developed high-speed scanning engine, our units are capable of reading codes moving at 800 mm/s, approximately twice the speed for the existing units.

2. Wide-angle view
Thanks to a wide-angle lens used, a wide-angle scanning is made possible for close-range objects, realizing more space-saving than usual when our units are incorporated to other terminal units.

3. Single-pass reading of multiple codes
Barcodes that used to be read one by one can be read, up to 8 of them, in a single pass of scanning. Therefore, our units can handle a product label on which multiple codes are printed in a single-pass. This feature leads to reductions of time required for reading codes and equipment cost.

4. Superb protection against natural elements
To protect against dirt and dust, IP54-grade protections are implemented. Also, an operational temperature range of –20 to 50°C is realized for our units.

5. I/O model
Our I/O model can be connected to other devices via a mini D-sub 15s connector. In addition to power supply from an upper-level device, a trigger signal can be input from outside, and reading OK/NG signals can be output.

6. Matching function
A 1-to-n matching function is implemented. This function is used for matching n-readings against one code after registering a scanned code as a master data, or for matching a scanned code with 50 master data that are registered with a QB30 unit beforehand, allowing our customers to utilize it as referencing device.

7. Easy-to-introduce setup software
One-time setup of the unit can be carried out by printing out QR codes for batch setup using a dedicated piece of software “QB Setting” (provided free-of-charge) and reading them with a QB30 unit, making it possible to realize a saving on man-hours when introducing our product.
